Before the branding, before the labels, before the bottles were stacked in warehouses—there were just two sisters, four dogs, and a problem we couldn’t ignore.

We weren’t trying to start a business. We were trying to stop our dogs from scratching themselves raw.

💔 The Problem No One Warned Us About

It started with the itching.

One minute they were fine—then suddenly, they were biting at their paws, scratching their bellies, waking us up at night from the constant chewing. Riley, my fawn Frenchie, has always had sensitive skin, but this was different. He was miserable. And Hamish, my sister’s Scottish Terrier, was right behind him with the red, flaky skin to prove it.

We did what every dog parent does:

• Changed their food

• Checked for fleas

• Ran to the vet

• Tried the medicated stuff

Some of it helped. A little. Temporarily. But then the flare-ups would come right back.

And the shampoos? Don't even get me started.

🧴 The Shampoo Shelf of Shame

We tried everything. Shelf after shelf of shampoos—all of them claiming to be “natural” or “for sensitive skin.” But every bath ended in the same result: more scratching, more licking, more guilt.

We turned the bottles around and started reading ingredients like we read food labels—and we were horrified.
Sulphates, parabens, artificial fragrance, alcohol, “proprietary blends” that sounded more like a chemistry set than something for dogs.

We had a wake-up call:
If we wouldn’t use it on our kids, why were we using it on our dogs?

🌿 From Desperation to Creation

We didn’t want fancy. We wanted safe. Gentle. Real.

So we rolled up our sleeves and worked with formulators to develop what we couldn’t find:

• A nature-derived, sulphate-free shampoo

• Soothing ingredients like oatmeal, aloe, and coconut oil

• A scent that didn’t overwhelm our dogs (or us)

• And absolutely no junk

And just like that, Hamish & Boyo was born.

Named after the dogs who sparked it all. Made for every dog who’s ever scratched more than they should.
