Easter Is Great… Until You Forget Where You Hid the Chocolate
Mandy Macpherson-MongieEaster is great.
The egg hunts, the chocolate, the whole “I’ll just hide a few and remember where they are” moment…
And then a few hours later you’re thinking,
wait… where did I actually put them?
If you’ve got dogs, this isn’t just one of those harmless “I’ll find it later” situations.
Because they will find it.
And unfortunately, chocolate and dogs are not a good mix.
The bit people forget
It’s not usually the obvious chocolate that causes the problem.
It’s the ones you forgot about:
- behind cushions
- under furniture
- tucked into corners for “a better hiding spot”
- or the ones kids hide and don’t tell anyone about
Dogs don’t miss things like that.
They’ll sniff it out long before you remember where you put it.
Why it matters (without overcomplicating it)
Chocolate contains theobromine, which dogs can’t process properly.
Even small amounts can cause:
- vomiting
- restlessness
- increased heart rate
And the darker the chocolate, the worse it is.
Not trying to scare you—just being real about it.
A few simple things that actually help
Nothing complicated, just the basics:
- Keep all chocolate out of reach (higher than you think you need to)
- Do a quick sweep after egg hunts
- Get kids involved in finding all the eggs again
- Check those “clever hiding spots” before the day ends
It takes five minutes and saves a lot of stress later.
Real life version of this
Most of us aren’t running perfect, organised Easter setups.
It’s a bit messy, a bit rushed, and things get missed.
That’s normal.
This is just your little reminder to double-check—especially if your dog is the type that will eat literally anything (we all know one).
Anyway… enjoy Easter.
Hide the chocolate.
Remember where you put it.
And keep it away from your dog.
